Combined role of Teaching Assistant (£9.60 to £9.79 per hour) and a Before and After School Play Worker (£9.60-£9.79 per hour).

We are looking for a caring, patient and highly motivated teaching assistant/play worker to join our hard working and committed team.  The teaching assistant role is to provide one to one support to a pupil within the class, in small groups or individually and the playworker role is to work in our busy before and after school clubs (Appledore Out of School Club – AOOSC).

For the combined post you will:

  • Ideally have experience of working with children in a primary school setting
  • Work closely alongside the class teachers to ensure the delivery of high quality personalised learning through instruction and under own initiative
  • Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ideally have a level 2 or level 3 qualification
  • Experience of working with young children in a busy environment
  • Have a hands on approach who enjoys having fun
  • Have a sense of humour!

 

We can provide relevant training in safeguarding, food hygiene and paediatric first aid.

The typical hours are 7.30am – 12.30pm three days a week, which will include Fridays, and 1.30pm to 6pm two days a week, term time only. The teaching assistant role will be 14.25 hours per week and the play worker role 9.50 hours per week. The total hours are 23.75 hours per week over 38 weeks per year.

This combined role will start in September 2022 and is temporary due to funding. The Teaching Assistant post will end in July 2023.

Senior Administrator and Clerk to Governors (Grade D £17,508 – £19,332 per annum and 39 weeks per annum (term time))

We are looking for someone who just loves to be busy, genuinely wants to help colleagues, children and our parents and is extremely organised and efficient. So not much then! Appledore is a warm, and friendly school that is passionate about serving its community and we want someone to join our team who is also warm, friendly and supportive of others.

The role is a blend of front-desk roles, internal administration responsibilities and support of our governing body, so no one day is ever the same.  Appledore School is a busy place and staff need to be flexible and resilient (multi-tasking is a must!) and excellent communicators, on the telephone or  face to face, with colleagues, children, parents and all other people you come in contact with. 

The role requires an eye for administrative detail, proactive organisational skills and proven IT skills and competence.  Training and support in all areas of the role will be provided by our highly experienced team and from external sources where necessary.

  • have experience of administration in a busy environment
  • be highly personable 
  • work well as part of a team;
  • be dedicated to supporting all you come across
  • have good ICT technical skills (ideally Google suite. Microsoft and MIS)
  • have a sense of humour!

The hours are 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term time) and paid over twelve months. A typical week would be 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am – 4pm Friday. Lunch is half an hour. Attendance of governor meetings, typically nine a year and typically for a couple of hours after 5pm, is required and time is given off in lieu for these.  For the right candidate there is flexibility for mutually compatible working hours to fit existing commitments.  The anticipated start date for this post is Monday 5th September, although possibly before.

Out of School Club Senior Playworker (Grade D £10.60-£11.70 p/hr) – Manager (Grade E £12.66-£14.26 p/hr) depending on experience

We are seeking an enthusiastic, conscientious and organised person to manage our before school and after school club. The grade available to the successful candidate is dependent on experience and qualifications, however, we can provide any relevant training.  Please see the attached job descriptions.

The typical hours are 7.15am – 9.15am and 3.15pm – 6pm on Monday to Thursday and 7.15am – 9.15am on Friday, term time (ie 38 weeks a year), however, a job share would be considered and/or hours can be discussed. There will be occasional additional hours at a mutually convenient time to complete necessary administration. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible.

AOOSC is located on the Appledore School site and uses many of the school’s facilities for the children’s before and after school provision. Meal Time Assistants – Casual Bank Staff

If you like being with children, outside during their playtime and inside assisting them in the dining hall, and have time to spare over our lunchtimes please do call us.  The wage is £9.25 per hour.    Job description.

Out of School Club Assistant – Casual Bank Staff 

To help us maintaining our rota is staffed when demand for place is high or staff are absent we are looking for fun and hardworking individuals who are available for us to call on. The club runs before and after school and during school holidays. Again, if you enjoy being with children and have time to spare please do contact us. The wage is £9.25 per hour.
