Full Time Key Stage 2 Teacher to cover maternity leave (MPS1-6) to starting at the beginning of the 2026 summer term

To start April 2026, at the beginning of the summer term, we are looking for a dynamic, energetic and really good class teacher to join our Key Stage 2 team to cover maternity leave. The position is full-time and we expect it to be in Year 4.

Appledore School is a one form entry school, which means big to have enough people to wear all the ‘hats’ required yet small enough for all of us to know each other and the children really well. As a result, Appledore is a warm and friendly school where staff prioritise supporting and looking after both children and one another alike.

In addition to a class teacher, all classes are supported by a full-time teaching assistant, a specialist art teacher, a reading champion (who supports all children in Key Stage 2 to develop a passion for reading) and a specialist music and drama, French and RE teacher who covers PPA. Due to our very low turnover of staff, our staff are very experienced and highly skilled.

We have worked hard to provide exciting opportunities for our children, through the design and delivery of our curriculum, to meet their ever-changing needs and interests and take full advantage of our wonderful school site and locality on a river and near the sea. For more information about our school please visit https://www.appledore-primary.devon.sch.uk/ and select Intent, Implementation and Impact under the Curriculum tab for details about our curriculum and what also makes us ‘tick’.

Our site is a lovely place to work and includes: a woodland, complete with outdoor classroom; an art studio, complete with dedicated art teacher; a huge polytunnel, complete with edible produce; a WWII garden, complete with an Anderson shelter and numerous outdoor play equipment, complete with ‘HMS Appledore’.

To be suitable you need to:

  • have experience of teaching in Key Stage 2
  • work well as part of a team
  • be dedicated to ensuring all the children make at least good progress within a broad and balanced curriculum
  • be an inspirational, creative and highly effective classroom practitioner
  • possess an ability to build a strong rapport with children and parents
  • have good ICT technical skills (ideally Google suite)
  • have a sense of humour!
Before applying, please do try to call us to find out more about the post and to arrange a visit by calling 01237 474365 and asking for the head teacher or email jeremy.cooper@appledoreprimary.co.uk We very much look forward to hearing from you.
