Thank you for considering our neighbours by remembering Kingsley Avenue is a private road and there is no permission to park on it. Please contact us if you would like a parking permit for Oden Road car park.
Thank you for your donations to Children in Need and food at harvest. We raised £256 for Children in Need and delivered the harvest donations to a local homeless charity that was very grateful.

AROUND THE CLASSES
Year 2 have been writing a class story about Lucas the lion who lost his roar. Next week, they will be writing their own stories about an animal losing something. In Maths, they have been adding and subtracting two 2-digit numbers. This has been quite tricky, but we have been impressed with their resilience and positive attitudes. Number bonds are key to this, so please keep practising the games on the Google Classroom posted a couple of weeks ago. In their History learning, they have found out about the explorer Amy Johnson. Everyone now has their parts for the Christmas play and we have been practising songs. On Thursday, they took part in a dance workshop with ‘West End in Schools’. They are looking forward to an outdoor learning session this morning (Friday).
This year’s Christmas performance for Key Stage 2 includes a medley of traditional carols. The children have brought home the words to learn as they were not particularly familiar with them. It would be lovely if the audience joined in with the carols on the day so do please bring the sheet of lyrics to the church if you require it. May I request that if you are aware of any alternative lyrics to the carols, that you refrain from telling your children about them. We haven’t heard them thus far and ideally I would like to keep it that way!
Year 3 had a great day at RHS Rosemoor to consolidate their science learning about rocks and soils. They examined different types of rocks and did some soil testing, and made a wild seed bomb. In class we looked at the rock cycle and for our outdoor learning sessions today we are going to look at making fossils. We have been continuing with our work on multiplication and division, this week focusing on the 4 times tables. In writing wrote a vivid description, using relevant vocabulary for tension, of when Mount Vesuvius erupted. During the history lesson we look further into the three different periods of the stone age to see what had changed over this time, and how man changed from being a ‘hunter gatherer’ to becoming settled farmers.
In Year 4 this week, the children have been busy learning about speech, fronted adverbials and conjunctions to improve the quality of their writing in preparation for when they write their own text “A Walk in Appledore” in English. In Maths, we are coming to the end of learning about addition and subtraction where they have been applying what they have learnt to a range of problems and the children have been choosing which method is the best method to use. In History, the children explored what Boudicca may have looked like by looking at primary sources of evidence and they had to draw what they thought she may have looked like which was very interesting! In PE, we looked at how to defend by marking in Netball. In Science, we looked at what condensation means. We also completed a Kahoot quiz to assess their understanding of states of matter before moving onto teeth and digestion.
Year 5 science lesson involved a fun investigation to find out which material makes the best thermal insulator. The class showed fantastic scientific thinking and were really engaged in the experiment! In History, we explored Anglo-Saxon place names and looked at how they are mapped across the U.K. The children worked hard using atlases to find these locations, and they learned a lot about the history behind the names. In PE, we’ve been working on an ‘eco’ dance, focusing on smooth transitions between moves. The children have really enjoyed this creative activity and have been improving their coordination and teamwork. In Values, we’ve been discussing friendship and what it means to be a good friend. The children have been reflecting on the qualities that make friendships strong and how to support each other. Year 6 have been finding out about the function of blood in Science. We even had a go at making ‘blood’ to show the different components. In History we have found out about how serious the risk of attack from Nazi Germany was in June 1940. We have been looking at problem solving in Maths and the Order of Operations. Please ask them about BODMAS! In Literacy, we have continued to develop character voice and emotion when writing diary entries. This is based on the book ‘Friend and Foe’ by Michael Morpurgo, which is set in Devon during World War 2.
