About Us
Appledore Community Primary School and Nursery is situated above the Torridge Estuary with extensive views across the river to Exmoor beyond.
The school was built in 1909 with extra classes added in the 1960s and 1990s around the site. The main Edwardian school has been extensively modernised and at present this building houses the younger children from Reception and Years One and Two. It also includes the administration area, a fully equipped hall and kitchen. September 2000 saw the completion of the school’s new ICT suite, equipped with new computers and an extensive range of software and additional ICT equipment, all in line with the requirements of the National Curriculum. Our purpose-built library was opened in May 2002. The new staffroom was completed in the Spring term 2005.
Our Nursery now includes provision for Nursery Plus children who need early intervention and support with communication and interaction difficulties.

Children in Key Stage 2 (Years Three to Six) are in double classrooms surrounding a central courtyard that is used as a quiet area during playtime and for quiet study during the summer months.

There are separate hard playing areas for infant and junior children

There is a pond area, games field and a large environmental area that is used for study and play.
The school is organised into four teams: Foundation including Nursery and Reception, Years 1/2, Years 3/4 and Years 5/6, with two teachers and classroom support working in each team. The children are grouped in single-age classes.
There is also a single classroom used by the Appledore Out Of School Club.
